Regional conference on internal financial control in public sector

The Regional Public Internal Financial Control Conference for Candidate and Potential Candidate Countries took place on 27 - 29 October 2010 at the Regent Esplanade Hotel in Zagreb. The conference was organised by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Croatia in co-operation with Sigma and supported by the Delegation of European Union in Croatia. Apart from numerous participants from Croatian side, the conference was attended by representatives from EU member states – Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovenia, as well as by representatives of candidate countries and potential candidate countries. According to the Head of EU Delegation, Mr Paul Vandoren, the Republic of Croatia with the full support by the EU started with the programme intended for a complete change of the methods by which public sector manages the funds at its disposal. The outputs of these efforts are the establishment of a more solid internal controls mechanism, development of fiscal discipline and effectiveness, budget transparency as well as enhancement of capacities of key participants in the Public Internal Financial Control System.
